About Our Chapter

Conserving land, water, and wildlife in southwest Indiana since 1945.

Our Story

Founded in 1945, the Evansville Chapter, Izaak Walton League of America has spent more than 81 years protecting and improving the natural resources of southwest Indiana. What started as a small group of conservation-minded outdoors enthusiasts has grown into a thriving community of members who share a commitment to responsible stewardship and outdoor recreation.

Our chapter is part of the national Izaak Walton League of America, one of the oldest conservation organizations in the country. We carry forward that legacy every day — managing habitat, hosting community events, and welcoming new members who value time spent outdoors.

Our Mission

We exist to conserve, restore, and promote the sustainable use of natural resources — including soil, air, water, forests, and wildlife. We believe conservation and outdoor sporting traditions go hand in hand. Every work day, every planted tree, and every hour spent on the property strengthens both the land and the community that enjoys it.

The Property

Our chapter maintains over 350 acres of wooded land, stocked lakes, shooting sports facilities, and primitive camping areas near Boonville, IN. The property is a working landscape — managed for wildlife habitat, water quality, and outdoor recreation.

Conservation & Community

We are a conservation organization first. Outdoor sporting is how many of our members connect with the land, but the heart of the chapter is stewardship — taking care of the property so future generations can enjoy it too. Members contribute through monthly work days, habitat projects, and simply being responsible users of the grounds.

Whether you are drawn to shooting sports, fishing, camping, or simply want to support local conservation, there is a place for you here. We welcome prospective members who share our values of responsible outdoor recreation and environmental stewardship.
